I began my career in daily newspaper journalism, first at papers in Louisiana, and then at the Dallas Morning News, where I covered health, medicine and science for almost 15 years. In 2008, I started freelancing, writing mostly for magazines.
My first podcast, exploring the systemic failures that allowed a neurosurgeon with a deadly track record to keep practicing, released in 2018. Called Dr. Death, it became one of the 10 most downloaded podcasts of all time.
I grew up in the piney woods of East Texas, but now live outside Dallas.
Some of the recognitions for my work are listed below. If you have a story idea, please email me at laura@laurabeil.com
